Shabbat - We would return on Saturday afternoons and start with a general meeting of all the chaverim, followed by breaking into the individual kvutzot. Each kvutzah would then meet with its madrich for an age appropriate study, discussion and any special project. Afterward, we would get serious about physical games. Machanayim (dodge ball) and volley ball were always favorites. The roof had a tall parapet, but inevitably we would throw or hit a ball over. When the ball fell to the street (Prado) we had to run down several flights of stairs, risk our lives dodging traffic and retrieve the ball. When the ball fell to the adjacent building's court, the situation was even worse. The neighbor was Sociedad Club Arabe (Arab Social Club) and it required extensive diplomacy to get back our ball.
